What changes with a child for insurance and money?
In short
With a child, three things come your way.
Your child needs its own health insurance within three months. During leave after the birth you receive 80 percent of salary, at most CHF 220 a day. And you check whether your family is protected if something happens to you.

What does that mean in francs?
If you earn CHF 8,000 a month, 80 percent would be around CHF 213 a day. That is below the maximum, so you get the full 80 percent. With a salary of CHF 10,000 you only get the CHF 220 a day, so around CHF 6,600 a month. Plan for the gap early.
What do you think of first as a family?
- Health insurance for the child. Register within three months of the birth.
- Protection on death and disability. The benefits for married and unmarried people differ greatly. Read your pension statement.
- Premium subsidies. With children, more families are entitled than many think.
- Liability for the whole family. Switch the policy to family.
